The Husky Ticket Project was once again able to send Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters to the game against Cincinnati, along with the a small contingency from Hartford Catholic Worker.
For those that missed our first newsletter, Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters were on hand for the home opener against UCF as well. Their Director, Ryan Matthews, has been a HUGE supporter of Husky Ticket Project, and it only made sense to make sure his great mentors and mentees got the chance to attend a second game.
“We were excited because 17 of our kids who attended the game had never been to a UConn sporting event, while 19 of our kids had never even seen a live college or professional football game before. It was an incredible experience for these kids.”
The Hartford Catholic Worker is a community of volunteers, living in the north end of Hartford, working towards putting an end to violence and poverty. Their after school program, The Green House, helps provide a ‘home-like’ atmosphere for Hartford’s poorest children; in an effort to provide them the stability they need to escape the downward spiral of poverty.
